Surrey Twin Peaks Challenge 2024

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED – READ ABOUT THE EVENT HERE

Dear South London Supporter

After the rip-roaring success of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge last year, we are looking to mount a Surrey Twin Peaks Challenge on Sunday 5th May 2024 over the Bank Holiday weekend in support of The Citizens Foundation (UK).

The view from the ridge.

This lovely jaunt through the spring blossoms of the Surrey Hills will take in Holmbury Hill, Leith Hill (the highest hill in south-east England!) and the splendid view from Ranmore Common.

Leith Hill Tower from where the English Channel can be seen on a good day… apparently.

The Route

The route will be approximately 25km and the challenge is to complete within 7 hours!

Don’t worry.. The OS Maps app will be your guide.

FAQS – Participants Please Read!

  • You must download the OS Maps App.
    • The route will be shared on the Surrey Walk Community WhatsApp group.
    • You can then open the route in the OS Maps App and will be able to follow the route. You will not get lost.
  • Gather at Friday St Car Park RH5 6JR at 8am!

  • From Friday Street car park, we will head to Holmbury Hill followed by Leith Hill and then to a water-stop in the Wotton Hatch Pub Car Park.
    • Please note, bring your own sandwiches to eat along the way.
  • The route will then head on towards Denbies Hillside (Ranmore) for a tea-and-cake-stop.
  • Finally the route will head back to Friday St car park.
  • We do not expect to necessarily remain as a group for the entire walk. Some may go faster, others may be slower.

There are no public toilets on the route. However, there are one or two pubs en-route where permission could be sought like usual:

  • Prior to arrival at Friday St. Car Park
    • Esso Station at Box Hill KT22 8LY
    • Esso Station by Dorking Deepdeen Station RH4 1JA
  • Prior to Holmbury Hill
    • The Royal Oak in Holmbury St.Mary. Pub will not be open at our expected arrival time BUT we found that external toilets at right of building happened to be open.
  • Between Holmbury Hill and Leith Hill
    • The Kings Head on Pitland St. RH5 6NP
    • A good option in an emergency!
    • However, this location is not directly on the route and would be a slight detour. You would have to make your own way to rejoin the walk.
  • After Leith Hill at Wotton
    • At the Wotton Hatch Pub.
  • After Denbies Hill (Ranmore) at Westcott
    • At the Prince of Wales Pub.
    • Is not directly on the route; would be a slight detour.

Also bear in mind.. there is no shortage of large shrubs!

  • Be prepared for hot weather, rain and cold.
  • Keep extra clothes in your car, you can choose what to take exactly when you start the walk.
  • Backpack
  • Walking shoes/ Walking socks
